Chapman Trails in Selma Park that run from Davis Bay to the top of the gravel pit is one of the most used trail systems on the Sunshine Coast. I’ve been walking my dogs there in the morning for about 20 years. It’s very popular with locals and visitors. There are old people some with walking poles for balance, joggers, families with small kids and toddlers in strollers, people with dogs big and small, some quite old.
There are many smaller trails that run from the tops of streets and then connect to the main trail; in many places you can’t really see what’s coming until you turn onto the main trail. Along the main trail there are many overgrown places where you can’t see what’s coming around the bend.
There’s a guy who flies through on his bicycle with his poor dog running like crazy trying to keep up. This man has no regard for the safety of others; he doesn’t call out a warning that he’s coming up behind you, he zips around curves in the trail going like a bat out of hell.
It’s just a matter of time before someone is seriously hurt –– a child hit, an old lady knocked over, or a small dog run over. These are walking trails, they are not a bicycle race track. There are a few others who ride bikes on these trails, they’ll warn you they’re coming, they’ll slow down or stop if necessary. Not this one guy.
