Letter: Stop blaming our small-town government for our environmental crises

'I believe that our previous municipal governments and staff have worked pretty diligently on solving the water shortages. Like other jurisdictions, we have been overwhelmed by the magnitude of the problem, and solutions are often out of range of our local governments. I hope we can give our new leaders our support in working through these problems.'
Reflection in well water

Editor:

I am writing about water; who isn’t these days? More specifically about the trend in letters and Facebook posts to blame our water woes on elected officials who apparently haven’t solved the problem. Most of the complaining about these elected people does not come with any ideas about doing better. Or with any realization that building reservoirs to gather all the winter rain would be beyond expensive and they would then be writing about their taxes going up.

I believe that our previous municipal governments and staff have worked pretty diligently on solving the water shortages. Like other jurisdictions, we have been overwhelmed by the magnitude of the problem, and solutions are often out of range of our local governments. I hope we can give our new leaders our support in working through these problems.

One other thing we can do. We can sign the petition at SCSBO.ca to Sue Big Oil and get the oil companies to pay for the damages that drastic climate change (no rain, no rain) has inflicted on us. They knew, they didn’t care.

Yours sincerely,
