I don’t know where Sheila Weaver [Coast Reporter, April 1] got her information on the paid sick leave. Here is what you are missing:
We, as small business owners have been left footing the entire bill for sick leave. (Your $200 number was for COVID sick pay, which is over btw. ) We get absolutely nothing but a much bigger bill. And then have to find someone else to cover shifts and pay them too. I agree that employees who are sick should get paid leave, but the government who offers this should at the very least give us some of that money back. After over two years of lost sales with COVID, lack of employees to hire because of COVID pay, we are suffering more than ever. Our bottom lines are meagre to start with. Small businesses are closing left and right and now this. Yet the BC Government takes all the credit!! Please don’t write letters stating we are winning by making money off of paid leave, clearly, we are losing big time.
