Editor:
Amen to your editorial about the deplorable practice of painting everything grey or muddy brown, dingy beige, or greyish blue. (I especially hate to see nice, warm-toned cedar siding painted over dingy beige.) It seems to me that such so-called “neutral tones” have been in vogue for far too long. I’ve never understood why this would appeal to anyone in a climate like ours where so much of the year the sea and the sky provide quite enough grey! I’ve heard such colours recommended for a supposedly “contemporary” look. Well, IMO those colours ought to have been retired from the “trendiness” palette years ago!
I also find it believable that the houses of Lunenberg were brightly painted, not just to cheer homecoming sailors, but so that the fishermen and sailors would know for sure they were headed in the right direction—not just any old shore, but home.
Sincerely,
Anne Miles
