Letters: Rethink Gospel Rock

Editor:

The following was addressed to Gibsons mayor and council and shared with Coast Reporter.

The rights of a municipality to adopt an amendment to an OCP, and the power to rezone after permits are completed, have been passed and precedent set in the BC Supreme Court and the BC Court of Appeals.

Please, Mayor White and Council, investigate altering the course that would be on the most prominent land in Gibsons, the development planned for Block 7. The Gospel Rock Neighbourhood Plan was passed under huge opposition from endless citizens at the 2012 public hearing. Mayor and council, please look to the future and the consequences of approving the destruction of our jewel, Gospel Rock.

Any further destruction would be a massive mistake just plane folly.  Do not approve any further permits. Pay attention to what the majority of people want and have done for well over 30 years! What we do today affects our future and our children’s future. What are we leaving behind? What is our legacy? No wild land, no wetlands, no trees, no wildlife and then no water, bad air, dead soil? We do not need another village, we already have one!  Mayor White and council be brave and courageous and make a historically meaningful decision and that is  no further destruction or development of Gospel Rock.
