Letter: Join Candles for Climate Dec. 13

'If you are feeling drawn to commemorate the deaths caused by climate change or you want to ask your elected representatives to confront the climate emergency to help prevent future deaths, please feel welcome to attend an upcoming event'

Editor:

The Coast Reporter has been covering a lot of news lately about weather disasters. This includes a story about the horrendous experience of two men narrowly missing the mudslide on the Duffy Lake Road. It also includes coverage of the local extended state of emergency and the washing out of Redrooffs Road again. These terrible disasters that are impacting our lives in so many ways are a direct result of climate change. Why is there no discussion about this connection between environmental disasters and their cause – climate change?

There are people who have died in the floods, heat domes and other climate-related disasters this year in British Columbia. Many, many people across the province are wanting honest reflection about the current climate emergency. If you are feeling drawn to commemorate the deaths caused by climate change or you want to ask your elected representatives to confront the climate emergency to help prevent future deaths, please feel welcome to attend an upcoming event. Please join us at Candles for Climate. We will be gathering in front of MLA Nicholas Simons’ office, 4720 Sunshine Coast Highway, on Monday, Dec. 13 at 5 p.m.
