Letters: Really, we’re an island

Dear Editor:

April Fools’ joke or not, we here on the Sunshine Coast of B.C., live on an island.

I moved to Gibsons 18 years ago. Every time I referred to this place as an island, locals would sneer, “No, it’s not! It’s a peninsula!”

“Oh, yeah? The only way to get here is by plane or boat. No connector roads to the nearest city (Vancouver) means we live on a friggin’ island!”

I never gave in and still think that way. Until they build a road so we can drive to Vancouver, to me, this will always be, “Oh, island in the sun….”

So, maybe the Provincial Government can (finally) do something right and bless this wonderful (mess of an) island an island.

Sincerely,

Jennie Tschoban, Gibsons
