We’re living in a climate emergency in real-time.

Hard on the heels of COP-26, the disasters in B.C. are spectacular evidence of global warming and climate change right here and now.

We are all strongly urged to do our part in mitigating further catastrophes, in the near and distant future. What can we as individuals do?

We can start at home: bring your own bags when you shop and campaign against plastic bags and unnecessary fancy packaging (why are people still putting bananas in plastic bags?!). Hang up your laundry to dry (dryers use up more energy than any appliance in your home). Put on slippers and a warm sweater and turn down the thermostat a degree or two. Collect rain water in barrels during the wet season to use in the dry summer months (municipalities should buy large quantities of barrels wholesale and offer them to tax payers at cost – other places have done so). Start your own vegetable patch. Restrict your air travel. Get an e-car. Ride a bicycle, walk, shop locally but buy less stuff. Reduce, recycle, reuse and re-gift!
