Nov. 16 is Louis Riel Day annually in dozens of communities in various areas of Canada. On that day, the Metis Infinity Flag (150 years older than the Canadian flag) is raised at city and town halls in many areas of B.C. and in other provinces. Louis Riel is a Métis icon and one of the most prominent people in the history of Canada.

Many school children in Sechelt attend the raising of the Métis Flag each year and witness this important cultural event.

The Metis Flag was again raised this Nov. 16 on the flagpoles of both the Sechelt and Gibsons town halls, as has been the case for a number of years when proclamations were also declared.
