When computers were first becoming popular, there was a saying,”garbage in= garbage out”. AI is just a continuation of this problem. If we use, believe in, act upon, a system of economics that only considers maximum profits ( where human welfare is just ‘externalities’) we don’t need AI to self destruct.
It’s not too late, we still have democracy and we could vote in people who still consider the common good as something to aim for. People first, Earth first, not me first, or profit first, would be a refreshing way of acting towards a sustainable future for all.
