We can think of taxes as our contribution to those things we can do better together and as with everything else, we get what we pay for.

Noel Muller has pointed out that in 2013, our Regional Water Plan was to not invest in water storage, treatment and transmission in order to keep taxes low. We are reaping the consequences of that decision now.

We need to stop thinking of the government as the “other,” but as our society’s way of making decisions that are, hopefully, for the common good.

We have a choice, severe conservation of water or paying for infrastructure. Most of our politicians ran on water infrastructure as that’s what people seemed to want. We can’t have it both ways. We pay for infrastructure or we do without.
