Letters: Our appalling roads

Editor:

While I realize that the myriad of taxes applied to fuel at the gas pumps are not all used to maintain our roads, that while historically lacking in maintenance, have in past years now degraded much, much worse...  I recall our premier stepping down in 2022 for personal health reasons and stating proudly that he was leaving a $5 billion surplus for B.C.! We drive a hybrid electric vehicle (to keep our PM happy) and the beating my little car endures on our horribly ignored roads is taking its toll. I’ve spoken to our local members of MOTI and I am told their requests for all but the worst road repairs are denied! Maybe I should consider acquiring a horse that could navigate all the potholes and crumbling road surfaces, but the pollution/fuel consumption factors likely won’t meet the EPA standards.
