Letters: No leeches here

Editor:

I was a little surprised to hear our Ford hybrid sedan (purchased locally from our neighbourhood Ford dealership here on the Sunshine Coast) described as “leeches on the backs of all gasoline and diesel vehicle drivers” by a local reader of the Coast Reporter, since our vehicle uses an ICE (internal combustion engine) as its main propulsion and further uses a small built-in battery to improve fuel consumption for a maximum electric only range of somewhere in the “less-than one kilometre” before requiring our regenerative vehicle to recharge the battery system again that results in our 5.1 litres of fuel consumption per 100 kilometres driven during our nine years of ownership. My point for writing my earlier letter was the continuing deplorable condition of our local roads that all drivers face here on the Sunshine Coast. Yes, we do drive a North American Ford hybrid vehicle to reduce our fuel consumption, yes I do purchase petrol at the local gas stations ($215.9/litre yesterday), and yes I really do feel our local road surfaces here on the Sunshine Coast are in “vehicle pounding deplorable condition” for what I pay in numerous taxes with each fill-up at the pumps
