Editor:
The Sunshine Coast Community Forest’s (SCCF) advertisement in the March 4 edition of the Coast Reporter calls for directors to serve on their board. The advertisement fails to mention that the SCCF is a logging company. If only their mission of “creating a legacy for our citizens by being exceptional stewards of our forest while balancing environmental, economic and social aspirations of the community” meant just that. Instead, it means logging the little there is left of the Sunshine Coast’s natural forests and ecosystems, damaging our watersheds and removing coastal carbon-sequestering low-elevation forests that serve as the natural warehouses of biodiversity.
As I wrote in a previous letter to the editor, it is time for the SCCF to dissolve, or reinvent the organization by finding other ways to give to the community instead of giving money made by eradicating endangered ecosystems. Hopefully those who apply to the board have an invested interest in environmental conservation and not the forestry industry.
