Letters: Municipalities declined regional strategy

Editor:

I remember something told to me by the late Celia Fisher (former Director or Elphinstone 1999-2005, and School Trustee in the 60’s and 70’s).

She said, “A lie left unchallenged becomes the truth.”

Thus, I am compelled to correct a statement of Mr. Janyk (“Regional Strategy Needed”, Oct. 22, Coast Reporter).

“What is urgently required— and has been shunned by SCRD directors for years— is a formal Regional Growth Strategy.”

In 2008, an initial background scoping of regional issues was undertaken by the SCRD in preparation for a Regional Growth Strategy.

On October 29, 2009, Gibsons formally notified SCRD that it was declining to participate in the process – as did the District of Sechelt.
