Editor:
I very much admire the optimism of Robin Merriott of the Highway Society in his appeal to Minister Rob Fleming [Coast Reporter March 18] to “take the Sunshine Coast’s infrastructure needs seriously and commit to having this highway built,” but he might as well talk to a brick wall.
Over the years, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has repeatedly demonstrated that our highway, which as we know is dangerous and totally inadequate for the traffic that it carries, simply isn’t of concern.
Just as with the ferry service, we get study after study and consultation after consultation and then nothing happens.
So, while we may be disappointed, in ignoring us, the MOTI is acting wholly as we have learned to expect and accept.
However, what is truly disappointing and disturbing is the complete absence of any concern or action to help from our invisible MLA, Nicholas Simons. I wonder from time to time just what he does all day since it’s clear to me that whatever occupies his time does not include anything to help improve our highway or the ferry service.
