We certainly need more rental housing units in Sechelt. However, I am concerned that in this process our water situation is not being taken into consideration. Looking at landscaping and its irrigation is a start but I would like to know why a grey water system is not feasible and why rain catchment systems aren’t being considered? In fact, I think all new developments should be expected to incorporate both into their designs.

It grieves me every summer when I have to use excellent drinking water for all water-based functions in the home. Being in a development I don’t have any choice. We have looked at rainwater catchment as a retrofit but it is complex making the price astronomically high.

When will Sechelt council make it mandatory for both grey water and rain catchment to be part of any development?
