Letters: Looking for a rainbow flag

Editor:

This letter is for an important request. We are looking for someone within our community who is able to lend their rainbow flag to the Sunshine Coast Labour Council’s pride celebration in June 2022.

As the pride month approaches, SCLC started making a plan to support LGBTQ2 community. Sadly, we have just found out that our rainbow flag, which has flown welcomingly at the entrance of Gibsons Public Art Gallery, has suddenly gone missing. GPAG has kindly looked for the flag, which might have been flown away during the stormy night, however, there was no sign of the flag in the Marine Drive neighbourhood.

The rainbow flag was quite special to our labour council, since we wanted to organize an initiative for members of the LGBTQ2 community on the Coast. Last spring, we made a motion to purchase a high-quality, union-made rainbow flag, which was carefully hand crafted by union workers in New York, U.S. The motion was passed unanimously and we were able to acquire our first rainbow flag. It was a token of group’s mobilization to promote social justice and safety in our workplace and community.

If you are able to help replacing the rainbow flag, we would be delighted. SCLC would like to have the flag flying proudly and graciously at the Langdale ferry terminal in June 2022.

Please contact us at [email protected] if you are able to help on this community outreach.

We appreciate your collaboration.

In solidarity,

Miyuki Shinkai, Sunshine Coast Labour Council
