Editor:
This is the first time I have been hesitant to write a letter to our small community paper. I went back and forth and decided that our freedom and rights cannot stand if we remain silent. The bullies win.
Ottawa. When the convoy first arrived, I defended their right to protest. I might disagree with the anti-vax views but it is always important to listen.
And then the images of a Swastika then a Confederate flag. Then some person dancing on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Finally, a mockery of the Terry Fox statue with an upside down Canadian flag draped as a cape.
It was then I realized listening will not go both ways – that was Day 1 of the protest.
Fast forward to Day 10 and this morning we learned that an apartment seven blocks from Parliament had a “protestor” try and torch the front entrance over a dispute about honking and taping the front door shut. This isn’t a peaceful protest – people have morphed into a mob reminiscent of “Thunderdome” not reasonable, just a blockade of angry people trying to blame science, health officials and Canadians who are vaccinated.
Please pause and think when someone tries to light a fire in an apartment entrance over a honking dispute - it’s time for all of them to go home and leave our nation’s capital.
Ottawa is our capital for all Canadians, not the bullies that have remained to occupy our national treasure.
