Letters: Keep the Coast neighbourhood, get involved

Well, we’ve voted. Decisions were made. And now many will just go on and complain later. The truth is...it’s not over. For the newer folks up here, please investigate your local community association. I don’t mean take a position on the board, just join. Read the newsletters. Find out what’s going on in your neighbourhood. Same with following the SCRD, DoS or ToG. You’ll get notifications of meetings, jobs available, work being done in your area.

No matter how many people move here, we are still a neighbourhood. Some neighbours still won’t get along, some decisions will not be agreeable to you, but, if you don’t partake, you have no say.

We seem to be lost souls to our provincial government. Roads, ferries, water permits…some things we may not be able to help much with. But you can keep the Coast the neighbourhood it’s always been! Participate.

I also suggest to our wonderful community associations, to send a letter to new neighbours. Share with them how your community works. Projects you are involved with and things you’ve done. When meetings are. Who is your council liaison? And God forbid there should be an emergency in your neighbourhood.  Where do you go and what do you do? Community associations rock and have been a mainstay of our way of life forever. Join your neighbourhood.

Get involved and stay ahead of “government” decisions. Go to the meetings or watch later on YouTube.  Inform yourself and help your neighbour.

We’re in for a rough ride folks and all we’ve got is each other.
