This letter is addressed to Sunshine Coast residents and visitors.

Our group, all volunteers from the Sechelt Garden Club, joined with the Sechelt Downtown Business Association and the Sechelt Rotary to help Sechelt’s downtown be a prettier, more welcoming place by filling the SDBA’s flower pots with lovely, cheerful plants for your enjoyment.

Sadly, people with good plant knowledge are regularly vandalizing or stealing these plants from the large pots near downtown businesses. The large, lovely planters along the streets, placed by the District of Sechelt, are also being vandalized.

We need your eyes and ears. We’re asking for your help to keep our town a safe, welcoming place to shop and enjoy ourselves. Please help us “keep the flowers in their pots.” It would be greatly appreciated by our hard-working volunteers who so willingly give up their time and use their muscles to show gratitude to our very appreciated downtown businesses.

Don’t buy plants if you’re suspicious about their origin. Is the price too good or have you seen an unlikely place or vendor suddenly lush with plants? Please be watchful as often stolen goods are “fenced” right under our noses. Your awareness is so valuable. The more eyes on a problem the more easily it can be tackled: please report to the police non-emergency number (604-885-2266) if you have a possible tip.

A big thank you to the merchants who help this project soar; who help with extras; who water “their” pots between our tendings and genuinely appreciate the hours we put in.

And thank you all for being alert and helping us keep our town safe.
