Editor:
In the latest Coast Reporter, Mr. Tom Clelland provides an excellent example of how lack of factual information and rumors can distort the real picture of current political events.
Mayor Henderson’s attempt to push for an affordable and easily attainable summer supply of water, were in no way an attempt to override the SCRD’s authority over water supply.
It was simply an enthusiastic attempt to bring the proposal to fruition. The Dusty Road well can increase our water supply by 10% or more, and the quality of water tested the same as the Church Road well, which we are now drinking. Unsubstantiated rumors of well contamination from the Sechelt Landfill, and also from the Heidelberg mining operations, are what defeated all support for this solution. None of these items are factual now and may never be in the future.
Proposed raw water reservoirs, no matter where located, are very expensive to construct and a source of what I call “dirty water”, since all water within them must be treated at a water treatment facility in order to be fit for human use. Well water on the other hand is mostly pure, fairly affordable to drill, and requires only minimal treatment for human use.
If Mayor Henderson was given the same support to deal with the summer water shortage problem, as he did with the Water Resources Center in Sechelt, then I sure everyone would be happy with the results, and Mr. Clelland’s tomatoes would have been just fine.
I am always happy to share my factual information with any constructive person. I do not hide behind an unlisted cell phone number or leave emails unanswered. My name is in the telephone book! Looking forward to any positive and civil conversations.
