I noted with interest your story about the SCRD Board censuring Mayor John Henderson. His remarks were out of line, and I am glad that he has apologized. I also understand the frustration that led up to this incident. The Sunshine Coast has endured severe to drastic water rationing for more than a decade now and we still lack a plan that will solve our problem going forward. The SCRD Board – past and present – are responsible for this shambolic state of affairs. I find it particularly ironic that they “requested District of Sechelt Council remove Henderson as Sechelt’s representative on any SCRD board or committee for the remainder of his term as mayor” at a time when they probably need more, not less, of Mayor Henderson’s approach to getting things done.
Maybe it’s now time for the Board of Directors to censure themselves for collective incompetence and their failure to properly task and supervise the District staff. The citizens of the Sunshine Coast are receiving third world municipal services at first world prices and have been for many years. Wouldn’t it be great if the members of the SCRD Board would actually do their job?
