It just astounds me that people still use disposables and many use them all day long. Is it so hard to carry a cup and cutlery and even a bowl or plate with you? The forests are disappearing by chainsaw or fire, the landfills are almost full and yet we are still wasting everything at record rates.
It’s sad to me that travel mugs were starting to catch on but with all the fear and regulations around COVID these past 18 months, disposables are the way of life for many once again. Boycott cafés that will not fill your travel cup – their excuses for not doing the sustainable thing are nonsense or laziness. Canadians throw away roughly 13,000,000 coffee cups a day not to mention the plastic lids and hand protectors, cutlery and takeout containers that are being wasted daily. I also advocate carrying a Tupperware around for bulk/by-the-weight food purchases or takeout. Try it, it works!
Mostly, what we all need to do is slow down and think ahead more.
