Letters: Foraging community a friendly one

Editor:

I was disappointed in the somewhat adversarial tone of the story “Finding fantastic fungi of the Sunshine Coast” (Coast Reporter, Oct. 27). The reporter called me out of the blue. I told him that I am currently in the city and relayed what I had heard from other foragers on the coast. Then, I turned him onto Shaggy Jack, whom he hadn’t heard of, and suggested that he speak with Shaggy Jack who is experienced, knowledgable and has his boots on the ground.

The mushroom community is a close and friendly one. We help each other and everyone benefits. It’s the way it’s been on the Coast since I begin foraging and continues today. We share knowledge, finds and favourite spots.

That’s one of the wonderful about foraging, how it’s brings people together to understand a little bit more about our world each time we step into the forest.

Thank you,
