RE: Roberts Creek RV Park on Lockyer Nov. 30 article by Keili Bartlett
Adherence to zoning is critical. My work depends on it. When you invest hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars, people want to know their property, the neighbourhood and the community is stable and consistent.
A mobile home/RV park should not just “pop up” in a residential neighbourhood – and to encourage it is wrong. Approving this application would do that and more. Not to mention set a dangerous precedent.
Furthermore, Mr. Laxton did not follow the process and obviously forgot to read the “good neighbour” pamphlet local government spends lots of money on to state the obvious. Mr. Laxton knows well enough that he should get permission to make these substantial changes to the neighbourhood before he starts inviting people onto his property for profit. I am sure he has a good heart but in not considering the legal implications and changing the use of the property, he has opened himself up to all sorts of other legislative considerations. He does need legal counsel indeed!
If bylaws and OCP’s are in place, they should be followed. And if there is no intention to follow them, or enforce them, (as some board members stated on record in the Nov. 18 meeting) then what is the point of government?
