I unreservedly agree that a complete environmental assessment needs to be done before any moves to establish a reservoir on Heidelberg’s property.
Sylvis on its website confirms they placed thousands of tons of biosolids at Lehigh/Heidelberg to promote forest growth. That may still make the site safe, but consultants at the recent SCRD meeting were pleased that “only” a brown environmental assessment is required; not a more demanding “green” assessment. This did not reassure me. I would have asked them about my concerns but the panel was allowed to leave before residents were permitted to ask them questions.
A resident at the meeting also pointed out the sharp difference between procedures needed to prepare ground-sourced water for drinking rather than water that sits in a reservoir, encouraging algae growth, and used as a home base for wild birds.
I would love to see two, three or four reservoirs on the proposed property. But I want the water coming out of my taps to be clean.
There was an ominous feeling at the SCRD meeting that the train has left the station and we are all already on board, without knowing our destination.
