Letters: Coming to a house near you

'I explained that it was an AirBnB owned by someone from Vancouver, rented out for $500 a night to eight different people every three days, and offering backyard dining, full playground, where kids can play all day, BBQ and fire pit where parents can visit with friends. All offered to guests on the platter of a quiet residential street, where the only noise comes from the STR itself.'

My grandsons (14 and 10 years old) were sitting on our deck and commenting on how much noise was coming from a neighbour’s yard...screaming, hooting, banging, etc., all day long.

I explained that it was an AirBnB owned by someone from Vancouver, rented out for $500 a night to eight different people every three days, and offering backyard dining, full playground, where kids can play all day, BBQ and fire pit where parents can visit with friends. All offered to guests on the platter of a quiet residential street, where the only noise comes from the STR itself.

My grandsons calculated the income from this business, and decided that it would be a great way to get rich! As youngsters, they weren’t fully aware of the negative effects on others with this plan. I expect that they will mature and take a more considerate and respectful path to “get rich,” not on the backs of others, no matter how tempting.

Because the local government won’t prevent anyone from this approach.
