The trial Glassford Road closure has gone from questionable to ludicrous!
The stated objective of the road closure is to “calm” traffic on the main portion of Glassford Road, making it safer. The result of the Glassford Road closure, however, was that traffic wanting to access Maplewood Lane and the south portion of Glassford Road chose to go down Blaine Lane. Now Blaine Lane has been closed. Consequently, all of Glassford Road and Maplewood Lane traffic must travel down Dogwood Road, then along the very portion of Glassford Road that is meant to be “calmed.” How can this possibly increase safety?
Closing roads and reducing accesses to neighbourhoods to “calm” traffic merely diverts this traffic to other routes, causing safety problems there. Reopen Glassford Road and Blaine Lane and put in proven methods of traffic calming such as stop signs, traffic circles, speed bumps, and/or sidewalks with roadside vegetation!
