Letters: An alternate route is much-needed

'The Coast needs a better highway, and you, and obviously others will not be happy.'

The following letter is in response to “We say ‘no’ to Roberts Creek bypass proposal” (Coast Reporter, July 8)

I’m not sure how to phrase this, but sorry, the Coast needs a better highway, and you, and obviously others will not be happy. Putting an actual highway through upper Roberts Creek will not destroy any community, or be as environmentally devastating as the letter suggests. The suggested options will do nothing to improve the safety, or efficiency of Highway 101. The suggestion of lowering speed on portions of the highway through Roberts Creek is the most ridiculous part of this letter in my opinion. It may be inadequate, but it’s still our highway. Slowing down is for school zones and subdivisions. I’m sure a second (real) highway could be made to work without mass displacement of property owners, while giving us a much-needed alternate route.
