Letters: A case for switching to AirBnB

'Landlords can’t evict a tenant who doesn’t pay rent, but we have to pay interest on the tenants’ deposit. Even though it can take up to a year to get them out.'

Landlords paying interest fees on damage deposits is the last straw!

Let’s try and be open and honest for a moment.

The rental market is diminishing exactly for this reason.

I can speak for most landlords, government policies such as this, are precisely why I am switching my rentals over to AirBnB.

I and other landlords have had enough. We have absolutely no rights and no support. We are constantly targeted and blamed for everything when it comes to rental units.

Government increases our land taxes, but our rents are restricted.

Government increases our utilities, but our rents are restricted.

Government won’t provide funding for rental damages, and yes our rents are restricted.

Landlords can’t evict a tenant who doesn’t pay rent, but we have to pay interest on the tenants’ deposit. Even though it can take up to a year to get them out.

Government requires landlords pay moving fees and we must return the damage deposit, then try and prove the tenant actually did the damage and pay court fees.  Let’s stop blaming AirBnB, after all, all AirBnB does is support the renter and the landlord.

I personally hope every landlord switches to AirBnB.

Maybe then people will put the blame where it belongs.
