Letter: We need tax justice, not tax relief

'We need the super rich one per cent to pay their fair share by closing tax loopholes and offshore deposits. A small percentage increase to the one per cent of the most rich would pay for most of our society’s needs.'

I strongly disagree with the Raeside opinion cartoon of March 3. When we spend money on health care, education, shelter security and green infrastructure, we are not spending our grandchildren’s inheritance, we are helping make a world worth inheriting. Everyone is better off when everyone is healthy and well informed and our environment enhances our well-being.

We need tax justice not tax relief. We need the super rich one per cent to pay their fair share by closing tax loopholes and offshore deposits. A small percentage increase to the one per cent of the most rich would pay for most of our society’s needs. After all, they made billions, while everyone else’s worth was diminished in the last few years.
