Letter: Impose user fees for burial on the Coast

Editor: A comment on Anna Edmondson’s letter headed, “We deserve to be buried locally.” I’m not sure how many “coasters” would agree with the heading.

I’m not sure how many “coasters” would agree with the heading. I for one and possibly Donna McMahon do not share the mandate of being buried locally.

To my mind, the body is a space suit. When the spirit leaves, the suit can be cremated and the bone dust can be placed in an urn. Memories can be created in various ways e.g. photos, brass plates on benches A cemetery is a field of memories so keep the memories and allow the land to be used by the living.

If persons wish to have burials let them pay user fees. I understand that there are approximately 12 burials annually.

I ask the SCRD budget planners to review the cemetery expenses before the final draft such that cemetery expenses can be covered by user fees and donations.
