Roberts Creek got its name from a fisherman called Billy Roberts. Billy had a motor boat and he would fish about a mile offshore, always keeping a sharp eye out for other fishermen who would “poach” fish, that is, fish for salmon closer than the 2.5-to-3 mile limit allowed. In those days, it was against the law to fish closer than the three-mile limit for salmon were protected as an endangered species.
