The Sunshine Coast is in Stage 4 water restrictions. We as locals are reduced to strategizing how to save water. My family, like yours, have taken steps to save water. We wait all day to flush, we bath without soap; this water is saved to help our fruit trees. We wash dishes with no soap; again, the water is used to help our trees.

We are doing our part – what little extra water we use, is for pets, geese and chickens.

The tough question: Should visitors and seasonal residents be asked to avoid the Sunshine Coast during the drought season?

Not only is it right, it’s necessary.

I feel terrible making this request, but my pets, fruit trees, gardens, and family are required to make difficult sacrifices.

Please plan your vacations to the Coast around the drought.

Visitors are not the problem, but you can be a part of the solution, at least for now.

I have shut down my Airbnb. This was not an easy decision for us.

We must do our part until the water shortage problem is resolved.

With deepest respect, please stay away from the Sunshine Coast!
