Letter: No room for anonymous complaints

Editor:

I recently read an article in the Coast Reporter regarding anonymous bylaw complaints submitted on Gambier Island (“Islanders raise alarm over anonymous bylaw complaints,” July 11). As a former senior business analyst with the Township of Langley, I have a single question... why are the bylaw officers on Gambier Island spending a moment’s time investigating a complaint submitted anonymously? For that matter, why would the bylaw officers in any township or municipality accepting such complaints? I do not believe it is a generally accepted practice to allow individuals to submit property complaints anonymously. I live in Sechelt. How relevant would it be for me to travel to Gambier and submit an anonymous complaint about a property on Gambier Island? I neither live there nor do I have any valid reason to do so. I would strongly suggest that these complaints be treated with the due respect they deserve...they go straight to the garbage bin. Problem solved.
