'Oh, here’s an idea: we can all go skating, then conserve water at home by showering at the rink.'

Editor:

To the members of the SCRD Regional District Board,

On page 5 of the Coast Reporter dated August 4, you urge us in large print to ‘Conserve Water Now.’ On page 14, you have paid (I presume) for a full-page colour ad that states, “Now is the time to CONSERVE WATER” (emphasis in the ad).

Now go back to page 4, where we learn, “Mid-September ice a go” at the Sunshine Coast Arena. This decision has also been made, unanimously, by the SCRD board. The water to create the ice, and provide for showers, washrooms and facility cleaning, will be drawn from the Chapman system that you urge us to conserve.

As of Aug. 11 we are down to Stage 3 watering restrictions. Do you know what stage will be necessary by mid-September?

Oh, here’s an idea: we can all go skating, then conserve water at home by showering at the rink.

It boggles the mind.
