An open letter to the SCRD board.
First, thank you for your hard work and your service to our community. With respect, I disagree with the way you handled the curbside recycling decision and survey. I understand that at 1,700 responses (myself included) this survey received more response than you have ever received from a survey. Seventy-five percent of respondents were in agreement with receiving curbside recycling. You knew in advance that curbside recycling wouldn’t take everything the Gibsons Recycling Depot takes. In fact, I can’t ascertain any new information you received after the survey that would cause you to completely disregard the will of your constituency.
Yet the SDRD board still decided not to implement this initiative. What really was the point of the survey, besides getting our hopes up? Now you seem disingenuous and this survey appears to be more meaningless, patronizing consultation. We get enough of that with BC Ferries, I don’t think we need it from the SCRD as well.
