Letter: Keeping Stonehurst

'Stonehurst is of historical and visual interest to the village and if the only remaining corner of Gibsons’s most visible intersection becomes yet another boringly pristine development, our village will become yet another Whistler lookalike.'

Editor:

I fully concur with Denis Provost’s letter of July 22.

Stonehurst is of historical and visual interest to the village and if the only remaining corner of Gibsons’s most visible intersection becomes yet another boringly pristine development, our village will become yet another Whistler lookalike. Character has value, and once lost cannot be replaced. This is a lesson learned by many a regretful community.

Already, with the decision to allow another a pub in the middle of town without adequate parking, and the subsequent parking lot that lower Gibsons has become, careful thought must be undertaken before removing an already existing and necessary facility, and at the same time preserving as much of the uniqueness of Gibsons as we can.
