Letter: It’s more like a ‘Havies-Not’ for the people in our community

'Our Sunshine Coast used to be community-minded.  Now we’re at the mercy of developers who promote ‘investment opportunities’ for foreign buyers. Our community is rapidly disappearing before our eyes. Just ask the real members of our community.'

A site plan of the proposed Havies development, as seen in a June 7 agenda.

This is an edited version of a letter sent to MLA Nicholas Simons and shared with Coast Reporter.

The marketing for this proposed development which was purportedly approved by all government/regulatory bodies is off the charts. How is the BC government allowing this to happen?

Our Sunshine Coast used to be community minded.  Now we’re at the mercy of developers who promote ‘investment opportunities’ for foreign buyers. Our community is rapidly disappearing before our eyes. Just ask the real members of our community.

The doctors (who’ve asked for help in a recent public newscast).

The BC Ferries workers. The residents/visitors who can no longer rely on the ferry.

The Hospital staff.

The businesses that are closing.

 The people without homes.

That’s the real picture. Not what’s being touted in The Havies Project.

It’s more like a ‘Havies-Not’ for the people in our community.

The governing bodies of the Sunshine Coast no longer represent the common good. And it’s time for all of us to stand up and be heard.
