Letter: It makes sense for lower Coast to join upper Coast in federal riding

'If changes are to be made, the commission should consider re-uniting Powell River with the Lower Sunshine Coast. Residents of these areas have more common interests and are affected by government decisions in ways that do not impinge upon West Vancouver, or North Island.'

Any plan of redistribution should make sense for citizens.

A cohesive Sunshine Coast makes sense. The Lower Coast has little in common with West Vancouver in terms of, for example, medical services and provincial transportation. In relation to federal government issues, we are a very separate community from West Vancouver.

Any proposal that the commission considers should not split our community and further dilute whatever small representation we have as voters living between Langdale and Sechelt. Any proposal to reassign the area north of Sechelt to North Island is appalling, not to mention anti-democratic.

If changes are to be made, the commission should consider re-uniting Powell River with the Lower Sunshine Coast. Residents of these areas have more common interests and are affected by government decisions in ways that do not impinge upon West Vancouver, or North Island.

Uniting the Sunshine Coast as a riding would provide residents with better representation and be better for candidates.
