Re: “Sechelt’s multi-use trail network gets a $3.2-million funding boost,” July 23.
Yet another overt spending spree from the feds and provincial government. Over $3 million to “improve” a bicycle path.
Bike riding is a great recreational activity on a sunny day. The fact is, most people need a vehicle for commuting, grocery shopping, or driving kids or pets to wherever. For 24 years, we’ve heard about the need for a highway bypass to alleviate the heavy commercial and ferry traffic, while local traffic could use 101, similar to Marine Drive in West Vancouver.
Even the Gibsons Grind bicycle race was cancelled a couple of years ago because the 101 road surface was unsafe.
Robin Merriott is a tenacious advocate for highway improvements, but the politicians only seem interested in the airport expansion for investors in their private jets and approving more development, ignoring the needs of everyday people.
