As a senior living in Gibsons, I’m in full agreement with Yvonne Mounsey’s remarks in last week’s Coast Reporter, “What happened to bicycle bells”?
Often, when I’m walking on the narrow path along the seawall, I’m surprised I don’t get rundown by a bicycle approaching from behind.
It appears bikes no longer come with bells and all it would take is for a pedestrian to choose to move sideways a yard or so in their meanderings and SMACK, down they’d go! It’s surprising it doesn’t happen more often.
I’ve heard that e-bikes are so quiet you can’t hear them approaching.
Recently I aired my concerns in a transportation survey sent out by the Town of Gibsons but have no idea whether my comments were noted.
I loved Yvonne’s suggestion that some creative entrepreneur design and market “cool” bicycle bells. If bells already exist let’s make them mandatory.
