Editor:
I received the SCRD leaflet in my mail today. I was amazed to read the bold typeset: “Our water supply is at risk due to prolonged dry weather”!
My reaction? Please finish that statement, SCRD.
What was not in any typeface in the leaflet is that we have low water supply because SCRD directors past and present decided over and over that spending mega millions on water meters would, like magic, resolve our limited water supply.
I have lived on the Sunshine Coast since the 1990s, and it was well known back then that our Chapman Creek reservoir was too small, especially for an expanding population, hence years later our limited water supply is dramatically more limited.
We’ve blown years and years by not creating another large resource of fresh water to at least double our supply of water to draw down when needed.
Abundant fresh water falls from our clouds every winter. So, increase our water resource to double the size of Chapman!
Why is this most obvious and intelligent option always stuffed away like it is dumb? You want dumb? Water meters do not create water!
Instead, our SCRD directors continue to spend mega millions enriching the water meter manufacturers and contractors who install those meters.
Everybody else on the Sunshine Coast is a loser.
Now I wait for the “yes, but” excuses.
