Editor:
Our parents’ house in South Surrey was slated for demolition by developers so we decided to take it with us on our relocation to the Sunshine Coast. In August 2021, it was gently lifted from where it stood for over 40 years and loaded onto a barge to begin its new life in West Sechelt. Many people recall seeing a barge with two segments of a larger rancher heading down Porpoise Bay via Skookumchuck Narrows, or waking up in the middle of the night to a house driving by enroute to our property on Rimrock Road. Unfortunately, we have no photos of the journey after it left Surrey – too caught up in prepping for arrival. Our only surviving parent will be visiting soon, and we would like to share with her the full experience of what happened.
So, we are appealing to anyone who may have photos/video of our house sailing or driving by from Aug. 31 to Sept. 2, 2021. We would be happy to provide some form of compensation, a donation to our local food bank or other worthwhile charity of your choice.
The renovation, while an adventure and overcoming its share of hiccups like most do, is almost complete and (with thanks to Callum McBride and Walter Powell) we have an almost-finished lovely home. Love the Sunshine Coast! We can be contacted at [email protected].
Many thanks,
Robert and Diane Mackwood, Sechelt
