Letter: Consider accessibility of Sechelt's Boulevard when it comes to car access

Boulevard

Editor:

The Boulevard along the Sechelt waterfront is a delight for residents and visitors alike but it would be a mistake to further ban cars.

Currently, the only vehicle access is one block between Beach and Ocean Avenue. This provides entry for a handful of residences and has about half a block of public parking space which is well used year-round. To get rid of this is to further deny access to people who are elderly, infirmed or who have disabilities, who can enjoy the view from the comfort of their car or easily use the nearby picnic tables right next to the road. Family groups would no longer be able to unload heavy coolers and awkward beach gear for their picnics.

Sechelt has already reduced and removed parking from adjacent streets. Closing the road for the exclusive use of dog walkers and bicycles is unfair to the rest of our growing community. Enforce the no smoking and no idling laws if you must, but let’s share this jewel of a location with everyone.
