Do you want a three-hour “catch-up” on the Indigenous people in the history of Canada?

As a retired elementary school teacher, I taught Grades 4, 5 and 6 students about our country’s history. I felt proud to discuss the stories of our explorers, and the Hudson Bay Company and the Northwest Company building their fur trading forts on rivers and bays.

The students learned about the Northwest Mounted Police driving out the whisky traders. They were taught about the waves of immigrants coming to Canada to clear the land, to start farming, and also to develop our first communities.

What stories did not get told? What stories were not taught? Attending one of the KAIROS Blanket Exercises in your community will help to answer these questions for you!
