Let our MP talk to us

My friends and family know I am not a Conservative, but I was perplexed by the letter to the editor (Coast Reporter, March 2) that suggested Mr. Weston's only option is to cross the floor now.

There are strong allegations that indicate something really ugly and illegal happened in Guelph, Ont. during the election. There are further cases across the country alleging that persons unknown hired a robo-call company to break Elections Canada law by impersonating an Elections Canada official and, by phone, tried to send people to the wrong polling place and suppress their vote on May 2, 2011.

Given all these serious allegations, we need to tone down the rhetoric and let the investigation take its course. We have the rule of law and presumption of innocence, and justice is slow. Elections Canada cannot err, as elections are the very foundation of our democracy, rights and freedoms.

Mr. Weston deserves better from all of the political spectrum. I refuse to tell him his only choice is to cross the floor now until we know all the evidence and he can answer to his constituents.

We need to be fair to our member of Parliament, and he needs to talk to us.
