The presentation put on by the Town of Gibsons regarding the proposed upgrading of Winegarden Park was extremely informative and one has to especially thank the presenters for being so open about the fact that the entire park upgrade is being primarily driven by the George Hotel and condominium project.
Clearly, if one is going to be an investor in an exclusive project like The George, one would prefer to see the slightly tatty park on one’s doorstep spruced up at taxpayers’ expense. It is, after all, The George’s front yard, in essence.
But surely, in the interests of fairness (an old-fashioned notion, I admit), he who benefits most should pay the most. If Big George wants his front yard spruced up, Big George should be paying for it, not the already struggling renters and homeowners of Gibsons.
