Once again the residents of the Sunshine Coast find themselves at Stage 4 water restrictions thanks to the lack of foresight and leadership from the SCRD over the last decade. How do you manage to create a drought in a rain forest? Just have your water supply managed by the SCRD.
This year we need to elect people who put water supply for the Sunshine Coast as their No. 1 priority. If the SCRD does not have the knowledge and leadership to resolve this issue, then they should hire someone who does and put it to a referendum so the residents of the Sunshine Coast can make the decision for the elected officials. Some of them still think water meters and drilling holes in the ground can resolve our water supply. Obviously they will not. Meter the water after they figure out where they are going to get the water from. We need a dependable water supply for now and well into the future.
Building and development permits should be frozen until a realistic solution and its implementation has been agreed to.
